The Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) has entrusted the responsibility of conducting CSIR-UGC NET in CBT mode to NTA. CSIR-UGC NET is a test being conducted to determine the eligibility ‘for Junior Research Fellowship(JRF) and for Lectureship/Assistant Professor’ in Indian universities and colleges subject to fulfilling the eligibility criteria laid down by UGC. Online applications for JRF/NET are invited twice a year on all India basis through Press Notification of CSIR-UGC NET for JRF and LS/AP.
CSIR and UGC provide Research Fellowships for training in methods of research under expert guidance of faculty members/scientists working in University Department/ National Laboratories and Institutions in various fields of Science. CSIR-UGC NET Fellowships are tenable in Universities/IITs/Post Graduate Colleges/Govt. Research Establishments including those of the CSIR, Research & Development establishments of recognized public or private sector industrial firms and other recognized institutions. Only bonafide Indian Citizens are eligible for the test. CSIR-UGC NET Fellowship is tenable in India. The programme is aimed at National Science & Technology Human Resource Development.
CSIR NET stands for Council of Scientific & Industrial Research – National Eligibility Test. As aspirants say and the exam conducting boards refer, it is the toughest national level exam for Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) or Lectureship (LS).

NTA conducts the Joint CSIR UGC NET Exam from December 2019 onwards, earlier it used to be conducted by the CSIR.
It is organized twice in a year (June and December) to select the talented researchers and lecturers who can contribute their knowledge and skill to the education industry.
Only the candidates having or pursuing their Masters’ degree in Science Stream are eligible to take this exam.

(JAM) is an admission test conducted every year for admission into Master of Science (M.Sc.) and other post-graduate science programs at the Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), Indian Institute of Science (IISc, Bangalore), Indian Institutes of Science Education and Research (IISERs), National Institute of Science Education and Research (NISER, Bhubaneswar), National Institutes of Technology (NITs) etc.
Joint Admission Test for M.Sc. (JAM) is being conducted from 2004 to provide admissions to M.Sc. (Four Semesters), Joint M.Sc.-Ph.D., M.Sc.-Ph.D. Dual Degree, etc. Programmes at the IITs and Integrated Ph.D. Degree Programmes at IISc for consolidating Science as a career option for bright students.
Organising institutes:
The IIT JAM 2019 Exam will be conducted by IIT Kharagpur. This is the first time when IIT Kharagpur will be playing the role of organizing institute. For the year 2018, IIT Bombay was the institute which conducted the JAM Exam. The exam is held annually in February. IIT BHU, IIT Palakkad, IIT Bhilai, IIT Mandi and IIT Tirupati will be admitting students for the first time through JAM 2019.

IIT Bombay: Two-year M.Sc. programs in (i) Applied Geology, (ii) Applied Geophysics, (iii) Applied Statistics and Informatics, (iv) Biotechnology, (v) Chemistry, (vi) Mathematics, and (vii) Physics.

- Candidates from any nation can apply for JAM Exam and there is no age limit to appear in the exam.
- Candidates should have minimum 55% aggregate marks in graduation if belongs to General or OBC-NCL category or if they are from SC/ST/PWD category then they should have minimum 50% marks in graduation without rounding-off
- Each IIT and IIsc has their own guidelines for different courses on which basis they give the admissions in the institutes.
